This file should give you a little overview about the history of DigiTrekker.

Version 3.00b was the first one ever published. You wonder why starting with
3.00 and not 1.00 ?

Well, they do exist, but they have nothing in common with DT 3.0.
DT 1.0 was my first tracker and because I didn't had any documentations about
sound cards, file formats, sound and music theory, ... the result was not good
enough to be given to the public.

DT 2.0 and DT 2.5 were much better than 1.00. They had a better user inter-
face, support for more sound cards (SB, AdLib, Speaker), a faster and more
accurate playback routine and a little mouse support. But they were only MOD
trackers. DT 2.0 with 4 and DT 2.5 with up to 8 channels. I knew there were
already enough MOD trackers around and that the MOD format was already at its
limit, so it was time to invent something new.

The only other trackers I had seen were Tetra Compositor /Ultraforce, Scream
Tracker 2.2 /Future Crew, ModEdit 2.0, FastTracker 1.0 /Triton and Whacker
Tracker. I thought if that was all it wouldn't be hard to set a new standard.
Well, I think DT 3.0 is better than all of those, but when I finished it, I
got some more trackers.

ScreamTracker 3.00 was a hard set-back for me. I had to accept that there
are others which are at least not worse than my tracker. I adopted most of the
ST3 edit features and effects, wrote a S3M saver, and so DT3 can also be used
as a S3M tracker.

FastTracker 2.03 was the final kick to release my Tracker. This tracker has
that much features that it would have taken months to implement them. So I de-
cided to release DT 3.0 as it was. FT2.0 is already a full scaly synthesizer
with all its facilities, but for my taste, the user interface is a bit too
weird. It has nice graphics, sure, but there's too much on the screen. If FT
had a better user interface, I would call it the ultimative tracker.

There are still a lot of other trackers, like UltraTracker, Farandole Compo-
ser, ... but they all require a GUS and so I've never seen them working.

I would say that DT 3.0 is a good mid-range tracker. It's strength is the
modular program design, which allows easy expansions, the user interface, which
gives menus to the novice and hotkeys to the expert and the bunch of its unique
features.
